El germen del fruto

Los objetos e imágenes que aquí se encuentran resisten la vinculación directa con su sentido ordinario. Frágiles legumbres encierran la promesa de densas selvas tropicales. La superficie dorada de chinches de oficina se transmuta en escamas de piñas industriales que engendran alguna forma de vida. Sin revelar la naturaleza de los seres que irrumpen de esos ¿huevos?, la artista esparce en el espacio rastros de su origen: la materia blanca y suave que crece, recubre y se expande hasta explotar al mundo exterior; cascarones vacíos cuyos pinches desafían la invocación nostálgica al período de la gestación. En una taza de té reposa una oveja de goma. La taza está rota. La oveja parece sonreír. El texto que la acompaña ofrece un puente hacia la tesis que Ortega y Gasset desarrollara en sus Meditaciones del Quijote, en 1914. “Yo soy yo y mi circunstancia” es una posible clave interpretativa sensible de la muestra El Germen del Fruto.
Producidas entre 2015 y 2017, las obras aquí reunidas resultan de líneas de investigación paralelas, casi disconexas, en las que Juliana explora los alcances y límites de diferentes lenguajes y técnicas. Salta entre la bidimensionalidad fotográfica y el volumen de la escultura, para luego volver a condensar en el plano la instalación tridimensional. Utiliza tomas propias y recortes de enciclopedias y diccionarios en la composición de collages. Yuxtapone objetos cotidianos y definiciones claras a imágenes íntimas cuyo significado permanece oculto. Pincha, corta, rompe, pega, arma, cose. Su búsqueda se caracteriza por el trance del acto creativo, por la necesidad de volcar en la materia aquello que no puede traducir en palabras.
Al elegir el título de la muestra, la artista nos ayuda a no caer en la trampa de interpretaciones cerradas. Esto no es el fruto de un proyecto predefinido. Esto es el gemen de un universo de posibilidades, regido por un imperativo categórico: brota, crece, se desarrolla. Rompe el envoltorio y se sumerge en la humedad salvaje del medio.
Sólo somos circunstancialmente.

The germ of the fruit

The objects and images that rendezvous here resist their strict direct rapport to their common sense. Fragile legumes keep the promise of thick tropical forests. The golden surfaces of office thumbtacks are transfigured in industrial pinecone scales that give birth to some kind of new life. Without revealing the nature of beings springing up from those…eggs? the artist scatters vestiges of her background into space: the white and soft matter that grows, covers and expands itself until it explodes into the external world; empty eggshells with sharp ends challenging the nostalgic invocation to the gestation period. A rubber sheep stands in a teacup. The cup is broken. The sheep seems to be smiling. The text under the image offers a bridge towards the thesis that Ortega y Gasset developed in his Meditations on the Quixote, in 1914. “I am I and my circumstance” is a possible sensitive interpretation key to the exhibition of The Germ of the Fruit.
Produced between 2015 and 2017, the works gathered in here result from parallel research lines, almost disconnected, where Juliana explores the scope and limits of different languages and techniques. She jumps between the photographic bidimensionality and the sculpture volume, to condense the tridimensional installation once again on the blueprint. She uses shots of her own and clippings from encyclopedias and dictionaries to compose the collages. She juxtaposes daily objects and clear definitions to intimate images with a still hidden meaning. She pokes, cuts, tears, pastes, assembles, sews. Her search is characterized by the trance in the creative act, by the need to reveal in the matter what cannot be translated into words.
When choosing the title for this exhibition, the artist helps us not to fall into the trap of closed interpretations. This is not the result of a predefined project. This is the germ of a universe of possibilities, governed by a categorical imperative: it sprouts, grows, develops. It tears the wrapping and plunges into the savage humidity of the environment.
We are us only circumstantially.
